Abstract

The publication (textbook) focuses on various biblical legal provisions and other related biblical texts. It deals with the Law of Moses and selected parts of the New Testament. It presents several legal-theoretical themes in the biblical context and asks various interpretative and theoretical questions. The book is divided into two parts – exegetical and theoretical. Each has six chapters. The first (exegetical) part deals with the interpretation of the provisions of the Law of Moses (and other relevant texts) relating to issues of: (1) protection of life and health, (2) personal liberty and slavery, (3) property relations and property torts, (4) marriage and family, (5) social and administrative issues, and (6) cultic provisions. In the second (theoretical) part, the author looks at the Law of Moses from the jurisprudential aspect (from the point of view of the general theory of law): (7) In the context of the Law of Moses, the author first deals with the issues of legal norm, legal principles, and sources of law. (8) He then focusses on the Law of Moses as a system of law. (9) After that he deals with the issue of legal relations and process of law in the Mosaic Law. (10) Subsequently, he moves on to the issue of legal liability and sanctions in the Mosaic Law. (11) Then, he briefly discusses the use of legal hermeneutics in the interpretation of biblical norms. (12) And finally, he briefly notes the question of natural law in the Biblical perspective. In the concluding part the author touches on the issue of the relation between the Law of Moses and the New Testament. The publication is an interdisciplinary work combining knowledge from the fields of theology and law
