Abstract

The textbook intended mainly for the information studies program. The textbook is anchored in the principles of inclusion, user-centered service design, and IFLA codes of ethics. The main thematic focus is the identification of information needs and the adaptation of library and information services for disadvantaged groups and categories of users with the aim of eliminating information segregation, physical, and communication barriers. The text categorizes disadvantages into health and social. For users with visual, hearing, speech, physical, and mental disabilities, it summarizes functional assistive technologies and compensatory communication systems. Special attention is paid to correct interpersonal communication for each disadvantaged category of users. Within the framework of social disadvantages, the publication analyzes the mechanisms of information poverty, and social exclusion. The text analyzes the approach to ethnic minorities and migrants. Specific attention is paid to the methodology of information services aimed at the marginalized Roma population from segregated communities, taking into account their cultural background. In information services for seniors, their cognitive and motor disabilities and social isolation are defined. Concepts of intergenerational educational activities are applied in the framework of building senior-friendly libraries.
