Introduction to Environmental Archaeology

Abstract

This book introduces the aims and objectives of Environmental Archaeology, as it is understood by the author. This text is intended to supplement an introductory course in Environmental Archaeology. The approach in this text focuses on the study of human interactions with the physical and biological surroundings over long periods, with particular emphasis on the prehistory of North America and Central and Southeast Europe. Methods and concepts for reconstructing past environments and human-environmental interactions are introduced, including archaeobotany, zooarchaeology, geoarchaeology, archaeoclimatology, and chronology.
